It will work, but how well is another matter? No harm in trying it and see what you think. You can always revert back, or try something else?

Any custom map is only ever going to work at its best on the bike it was built for, even if it is an identical model and year.

As for the 01 ECU, it was introduced in late 2005 as a replacement for the early 00 ECU which was plagued by surging.

All the information about the different ECUs fitted to XTX/R models is listed in this thread. Have a read through and it will all make sense.
