Shame you didn't get your new bike a few weeks ago, 'cos then you could have some to the XT660 meet at Llanfairfechan and met some other members and seen what mods they have done to thier bikes.
Irrespectively I hope you enjoy your new bike and I shall see you some time.
PS I have a real good pair of handguards that you can have. Not as sturdy as the alloy braced ones but perfectly good for weather protection.
Have a browse at some of the mods available especially the DNA filter and Kev mod, best bang for buck to get more stomp from the bike.
