The green wire is the ECU COMMS, the red and black wires are permanent +12V and earth respectively. When you get the Yamaha tool, you get two sets of wiring that can be swapped at the three pin connector on the diagnostic unit to suit different Yamaha models: (1) red wire with crocodile clip, black wire with crocodile clip and a green wire with a spade connector (shown in the picture in my previous post). (2) Single three-way triangular shaped multi-plug.

On the Tenere you need option (2).

Plug on the diagnostic tool looks like this...

The port on the bike is covered with a blank female connector which looks like this...

Take the blank off and you will see the male connector which plugs into the diagnostic units female plug...

If you weren't supplied with the triangular connector then you will need to fabricate something to allow the green wire to connect to the terminal for green on the bike's diagnostic port connector. You can connect the crocodile clips direct to the battery.

BE CAREFUL THOUGH - Any miss-connection or reverse of polarity could result in ECU damage! Using the proper triangular plug will prevent any such problems as it only goes on one way.
