MTC's are a bit hit and miss in regards loudness, mine is very reasonable, my mate has the same pipe and it's much louder - no idea why, we've swapped db killers and it makes not difference.
You don't need any fuel mods (PC-v or KevMod) if it's just the pipe.
You will get more pronounced popping, this can be a blessing and a curse. On the plus side, you can control the popping on the roll off, to the point you can create the pop as you wish. While you could be considered a *$%**"! it's a little less confrontational than using your horn in some cases. Just because the highway code tells us to use out horns, doesn't mean the other 80% of road users have read it!
Popping can be reduced to almost zero by blocking the AIS, a simple enough job that takes a few minutes. It doesn't stop it fully, but more than enough if it causes you a problem.
Pleiades is quite right, the proliferation of DLR's makes us blend right back in with the other vehicles. Even worse is the widespread use of BiZenon lights which can actually mask our presence. This gives weight to the idea of using your road position to create a laterally moving light to differentiate yourself from other road clutter.
Having come a cropper twice, I don't think you'l do it again. Just be more aware of your experience and trust your instincts. A couple of tips that you've probably already seen or heard:
- At every hazard, ask yourself "what if" (he pulls out, stops, moves left/right etc), make a mental plan what you are going to do, cover your brake and be prepared to use it
- Look for the opening gap, as above plan. If a car pulls out in front, say fron a side street on the left, your natural reaction is to steer right to avoid. Consider going left - the car is leaving that space behind and will in all probability create a bigger space as it moves.
- If you think they've not seen you, slow down, 10 mph difference in speed can be 20 meters in stopping distance.
- Slow, steady and smooth - you'll be surprised how little time you loose over fast and furious
Good luck and stay safe.
