You can load a map before you install the PCV or afterwards - makes little difference - your choice.

Personally I would load your the initial map you want to use before you install all the gubbins on your bike. The reason being, once the PCV is installed on the bike you have no choice but to take your laptop to the bike (probably in a cold shed at this time of year) to send a map. If you load the PCV software onto your laptop and plug in the PCV before hand you can spend a bit of time familiarising yourself with the map(s) and with the software, whilst sitting in the comfort of your home.

Bear in mind you will still need to connect your laptop to the PCV when fitted to the bike the first time you run it so you can calibrate the throttle. This task MUST be done before riding if you're using a third party map that wasn't built on your bike as every TPS voltage reading at idle will be different.
