When you buy a second hand vehicle the owner and yourself are supposed to fill out the back of the rego papers. Part of the paper is sent to the RMS(old RTA) by the owner and the purchaser takes the remainder to the RMS. Not sure what happens if you don't have it.
Just go to or phone the RMS, they'll sort it out. Your receipt will come in handy.
