I guess it's highly likely that being on a paddock stand the arse end of the bike is a lot higher than the front? This could well be why it appears over-filled. When it's on the paddock stand get a block of wood under the front wheel to level things out. Better still, check it while your sitting on it, which is how I tend to do it.

         It quite well have been over-filled by the dealer; it has been known! 
        
 
         
         The one and only time mine's been to the dealer for oil (600 mile service) they'd massively over-filled it (and over-tightened the chain!)
