+1 Pretty much the same with mine, although I used a soft-faced mallet to gently tap it on - no undue force necessary. It should be a snug fit, rather than super tight.

Changed my front sprocket three times. JT 14T (like Phil's), back to the OE sprocket as I didn't like the 14T and just recently to an OTR 15T. All slid on quite smoothly.

If you're having to twot it with a hammer, something is amiss.
