Hmm, while I agree with your sentiment about posting outside your own country, posting from the UK to Europe or wider afield to the Far East or the Americas isn't quite the same.
Posting within UK is simple (for UK people), you go the post office and post it, you pay for it by weight - simple.
Internationally, you post by a combination of weight and size. It is also difficult to post over/odd-sized items at the post office, which means we have to use carriers, and you need to start specifying the size and weight to get a cost, get it wrong and it costs you after (they will back bill for any differences). You also have to consider Customs notices and any restrictions etc. Some countries don't have the ability to trace items as they travel, some do, tracking can also be expensive. This is why many people are put off.
I'm always happy to consider international postage, I once posted a letter to Aberdeen and some panniers to Singapore on the same day. The Panniers arrived first
