Y'know, I am on my fifth XT (of all kinds) and my second XTR, having had all manner of bikes at various times, and I still think the XTR is one of the handsomest bikes I have ever had. Like you, I prefer bikes without a screen these days. If it makes you slow down a bit, that's no bad thing.
When I brought the current XTR home, I missed my footing when stopping to open my gate, and it gently toppled onto its crash bars. It was an easy lift back upright and no harm done. I have also dropped a Pan European on its side and lifted that back on my own, and I never want a heavy bike again.
