Austin is on a distinguished road
I was looking at mine today and the link pipe touches the frame as well. If I slacken off the clamp and the silencer straps it doesn't touch but tightening it all up pulls it against the frame. It's worse actually as the tyre touches the silencer when the suspension is compressed so a spacer is needed between the straps and frame to push it over which is what then makes the link pipe touch the frame.

In fact I came to the conclusion today that the whole Metal Mule pipe is pretty crap actually:
first the link pipe touches the frame;
second it looks like there is a ding in the pipe where the rear brake caliper has touched the silencer;
third there is a small mark on the swing arm where that touched the link pipe (needs to completely bottomed out but it
it touches both); and
fourth the clamp for the link pipe/silencer is the cheap version with a mild Steel bolt, firmly rusted in place.

I wish I hadn't bothered with the Metal Mule stuff. The wife's bike with Akrapovics and a TT sump guard is loads better.
