To be honest, I find the XTR headlight fairly good. On my XT600E I have fitted one of those +80% bulbs from Halfords. They make a noticeable improvement, although whether it is 80% is debateable. They have the big advantage of only drawing the same current as a standard bulb, so no issues with overheating the wiring or connectors or overloading the switch. They work by burning hotter than standard, so they don't last as long, but I have found them quite durable. I have fitted them to three bikes now and haven't had one fail yet. A decent and cheap compromise.
