Good point. I think of my riding as 'not hanging about', but it may well be more economical overall than someone else's style. My riding at the moment is 99% road, mostly commuting on A roads and day rides, and I pretty much use WOT until I get to 60/65 then stay there no matter what. I don't do long stretches on motorways at 85, which I suspect may be the killer for economy. But in traffic I am ahead of most things. Different bikes and different engine types will all have different characteristics, and I guess there are no hard and fast rules.

TL;DR: no one rides a motorcycle for economy these days. Fill it up and use it like it's meant to be used. If you want economy, get a diesel Corsa.
