Both the 690, and AFAIK all the Rotax BMWs have the tank under the seat (where the XT airbox is) and the airbox in the 'tank', so the intake is roughly at headstock height.
It's a nicer setup, although of course they don't take 23l of fuel in that underseat tank, so to get the range of the Ten you have to have multiple (expensive, aftermarket) tanks.
