As Pleiades said "the Smaller DIN socket is pretty much the bike industry standard power supply these days. They are much more robust, more watertight, have better contacts, are more compact and smaller than cigarette lighter sockets"
Of course, it's up to you, but most people opt for the DIN socket and many bike manufacturers fit the DIN as standard meaning it is easy to take your accessories from one bike to another if you want to.
I have made a long "extension" cable so I can keep my phone, iPod, camera etc.. charging in my tank bag or top box.
