Used to do quite a bit of in the early the early/mid eighties as a schoolboy on a Fantic 240, and later on a TY250 in senior events with the Craven Motor Club. I lived near Harrogate then and there was a massive trials scene at that time, I packed it all in when I went to university in 1988 aged 19 and never started again. Sadly, I believe the Craven Motor Club (which is where all the Lampkin family cut their teeth) has folded due to a ageing organisers and lack of new young riders. I think that nationally trials riding is going the same way, no kids taking it up, it just isn't glamorous enough anymore - bring back Kick Start I say!
I'm seriously considering about starting again, but there is a pretty much non-existent trials scene in Norfolk and the modern bikes, although lighter and far superior than those I rode, are too costly and expensive to maintain. The beauty of trials in the old days was it was THE cheapest motorcycle sport to do. However, I'm actively looking at getting a pre-65 bike to start trialing again, I can justify the costs involved and the standard's about right for a has-been!
