I use to have an xtr with standard bars, acerbis hand guards and the inner bar end weights, with oxford heated grips (the harder rubber type). I found something similar but found that the bar end weights kept coming loose, tightening them up makes a big difference and also making sure all the rubbers that connect the cars to the yokes of the forks are tight be not over tightened.
Other option is after market bars (had a crash on mine and the standard bars are like putty againist a sledge hammer in a crash) I got renthal streetfighters (seemed to fit me fine) and they made a good bit of difference.
Not tried the silicon idea but also heard about filling the bar inners with sand and just siliconing the ends up??
