Have a look on the website, there are lots of ways to learn without doing the full 'skill for life' course, but as someone who has done it, I'd always recommend it as you are riding with proper skilled riders, rather than riders who think they are (and there are lots of them).
You could just buy her the course........ they do gift voucher type thingies.
or, BikeSafe is a great introduction if they run it in your area.

Why? there are loads of folk on here without XT's, can't think of any right now, after all who'd be daft enough to swap a XT660
if she gets her test out of the way before May, bring her along to the Lakes and she can see the bikes in the flesh. Of course, we'll make sure Steve is locked up in his tent before anyone leave him alone, don't want any repeats of previous years.....
