The bars on my Tenere are alloy, so they should be able to with stand the force of the bike being dropped..

If however they were steel bars they would bend if the bike were dropped , thus making it difficult to ride .

I think Nick want's to make sure that if he drop's his bike on his long trip, that the bars won't be easily damaged.
