I'm a bit out of date on that front. The last pair of road bike tyres I bought was a pair of Avon Viper Sports (AV59/AV60) in about 2007. They were quite nice, pretty cheap and worked well for road use and my first few trackdays. I only really started using scrubs because they worked out cheaper, even though they only did 1/3 the miles, rather than because I thought I needed more grip.

I've bought about 8 pairs of tyres since, but they've all been knobblies
