It's the same on the Tenere - approx 6L reserve, although the Tenere has a much larger tank of course, so the reserve is essentially just a third of the total capacity...
To be honest, it's kind of academic when the light comes on, if you know how much range you have once the light is on? (ie. 100kms rather than 50kms based on your calculations above)...
I think possibly the reason they have such a large reserve is that in more remote areas (even in mainland Europe), fuel stations are less prolific, so you might need more than a 50km 'reminder'?
