Nor me stuxtttr. I have that issue with a lot of that type of gear. Admittedly I couldn't make it, and if I could not for the price, but there is economy of scale and the manufacturing equipment available to them and not so much to us. In some cases the cost of materials would probably be measured in cents, too. I think there must be a perception of value for money, and it could be argued that it isn't always apparent.
