The chain wears very slowly initially and the accelerates in an upward curve in its later miles. When this is is dependant on how you look after your chain. Scottoilers or in my case a Loobman will always be a big advantage as a wet chain is far less wearing than a dry one.
Watch your front sprock and when it shows signs of wear, change it and increase the life of your chain. If you turn the wheel you will see and hear a worn sprocket pick up a chain as the teeth wear and increase the strain on the chain links.
The XT like many trailies is a PIA to check as it tightens as you load it up but don't over tighten as you will stress your gearbox bearing.
You usually get a golden period on a new chain of little or no adjustment and the longer that lasts the better
