Gas_Up_Lets_Go is on a distinguished road
Thumbs up NavtXT - The aftermath...

To all those that had a go, I thank you. I know some were a little sceptical about it, but had a go anyway. Some thought the day bagan at 12:00 (tut tut), others had a real go and went for glory!

Basically, everyone got a book of maps (yes the quality wasn't great) and locations of lots of marker points. For each marker point there were some questions (to qualify you were actually there). People got points for visiting markers, some had higher value than others.

First of the day to come knocking at 08:00 was TenereDoug, who employed the help of technology to help him. leaving the site some 45 minutes later in a whirl of dust, noise and fluttering papers......

Closely followed by Bear, who was using a different strategy - "If I find one it will be a miracle" were his parting words as he too left the site in cacophony of exhast noise.

One by one, team by team they left. Stevedud took the opportunity to figure out where the 'on' button was on his GPS, then what followed was a nothing short of amazing! withing the hour, waypoints marked, route plotted they were away.

SelinaXC and Onanist, they had tent zipper failure and didn't manage to break free of it's grip until the sun had left the yard arm and was looking lovingly towards the western horizon...

The site was silent........

First back, with a staggering score, Bear......

Enduro374 was next, having spent the afternoon doing some mods to his bike....

Again, one by one, tick tock, tick tock....... the riders returned.

Excuse of the day "I'm giving you my score card by the medium of paper mush" - it set the scence for the rest of Midlifes weekend.

18:00 was a few minutes away, when with seconds to spare Uberthumper returned, and last in, taking more penalty points than some had to loose (over 200) was TenereDoug (we decided to give 10 penalty points for every minute late the guys were).

The BBQ lit, battling winds and driving rain we struggled on to provide 60 Burgers (thanks to Smoggs, who jumped in when Keithblade though it was a good time for a shower!) and 100 sausages - If I ever see another sausage again, it will be too soon. All the while, employing more synapses than he had to give, Stumpy dave was adding, calculating, ordering until finally, we had the results!!!

There catagories were for the taking:

Single Rider

Winner, taking nearly all the markers -> Uberthumper
Second, who would have won if he had returned 10 minute earlier -> TenereDoug
Third, and also taking 'most compact tent' -> Tequilasunrise

Team

Winner -> Irishguyonabike and Brucetoper1

Single Rider, Non GPS

Winner -> Uberthumper

and one last prize, the Stumpydave Memorial Spoon, given to the lowest score of the day.

-> Bear

Well done to everyone, it seams everyone had there own event, and lots of people reported how they had enjoyed the new format. Next year there will be lots more markers, over a wider area, and lets hope the winners will come back to defend their crowns.
