I've no idea what affect the ABS has on the off road side of things but I'm sure it can be bypassed.
One of the important reasons for me buying the Ten was its ground clearance and good fork travel. I'm quite tall so the height of the 2008/2009/2010 Ten is not a problem for me.
In my view Yamaha has dulled the off road ability of the bike and seem to be targeting the more road biased touring bike buyers out there. The older models can do both, off road and tarmac touring very well, so the only advantage I can think of with the new model is that those of shorter stature would feel more comfortable riding it. Personally ABS would not be much of a consideration when looking at buying a bike. So as usual it all depends on what type of riding you do - where have I heard that before? Wet boggy tracks and reasonable tall? why not go for the older model? Tarmac with the occasional gravel track and less tall lets say? Why not go for the 2011?
I really feared that Yamaha was going into a more road oriented direction. I'm using the bike to both school and work most of the year but I'm also planning trips to East Europe, North Africa and so on and that is why i was looking at the ten. It looks like I should look for good discount on a "old" ten.
