Use the tools you have with you (or buy a G-clamp, much easier)

Here is a thread on how I break the bead on tougher tyres, it's never failed me yet, although as Jasext says, a g-clamp would be easier.

Fitted Conti TKC80's to the Tenere. First tyre took three hours, second tyre took 30 mins and the third tyre... well, that only took twenty minutes. I can assure you that the air was blue when, as I packed all my tools up, I discovered a rim protector was missing. back into the tyre, and there it was. What a t***pot.

Here is a pic of my trick to break the bead on stiffer tyres like the Metzeler Tourances.

So, my long Buzetti tyre leaver in, then push the shorter Motion Pro lever between that and the rim with a short 3/8 socket extension under the lot and some serious welly.

It was one of these home made rim protectors that I forgot in the wheel. They are just lengths of hose cut down the middle.
