I'd keep the inline fuse , thats what i did with my garmin lead, i then cut the end off and will cramp a new mating connector to pick up the spare connector behing the instrument panel.
I managed to find some connectors which are the correct mating connector.
This then gives you switched power which i think is rated at a max 5 amp,
I also fitted a din plug socket to the RH side of the lower panel , there is a hole provided for the connector all ready , then ran that directly to the battery with a inline fuse.
Sorted , got switched power and 12 volt continuous, all nice and tidy.
