I think you may have answered your own question

Assuming you don't want to change your riding style, you could try lower gearing (if not done already) by using a larger rear or smaller front sprocket. This will generally give the engine/transmission an easier life because it can rev up easier - hence accelerate easier - hence wheelie easier!!

Interestingly, the original chain on my 09 Tenere didn't last as long as the DID 520VM that replaced it. I only got 18k miles out of the OEM as opposed to 22k from the replacement!!
