Little Lawford Ford, nr Rugby, Warwickshire
Hi folks out on the bike the other day and came across a great looking ford that crosses the river avon its unusual in that it dog legs and you cant see the exit from the entrance the ground seems to be gravel/pebbles.
I thought better of just going for it as I had a good look and got wet feet but it looked pretty deep. (a few years back I would have just said sod it and gone for it and come outthe other side smilling or swam out thinking **** my bikes gone !)
Since getting home I have looked it up some guy with a 4wd states it is at least 4ft deep and can go as deep as 2.5 meters !
well its been nagging me all weekend so I went back with my wellies to check it out on foot. The water level had dropped since Friday.
I walked across its probably 75 meters across and the deepest part I could find was about 3ft. althought some of it was about 1ft - 2ft you need to go through at least 2.5 ft to reach the other side which from the maps looks like a green lane to Long Lawford.
The current is decent but nothing to worry about.
I don't fancy trying it for the first time alone as If I get in a mess, I don't think I could get the bike out alone I tried pushing the bike on some of the wet gravel and it was a pig to move.
If anyone fancies a spot of green lanning and a chance at the ford reply to this message and we can try and set something up.
I think the OS grid ref is SP4677
It looks like it would be a laugh and as there's not many decent water crossing around here its got to be worth a go.
If I havnt had any luck before in a couple of weeks I will take the old boy over with me as he can help get the bike out if it all goes wrong.
