I've never dropped the bike but people who have say that the oem are a little on the soft side, bend easy and leave you with an un ride-able bike. Most renthals are the standard 7/8 inch outside diameter so the standard grips, leaver and mirror brackets fit. The main difference is the renthal bars have about double the wall thickness. So they don't bend like cheese when they hit the floor.
Because of the thicker wall of the renthal bars your standard bar ends wont fit, so you'll need to get some of these with your renthals.
I rate them.

+1. Fell off my XTR in the snow and ice last year and this. The Yamaha bars are like a chocolate fire guard, and the other renthal copy bars i got for 20 where not too far behind them. Havent dropped the bike with these bars on yet but they seem alot more tough/stiff.
I go the streetfighter bars which as bishop said are a bit narrower (about 1inch each side i think and are closer to the rider, but i think are also slightly higher up as well. They allow you to sit up and beg more.
The bar inner is smaller so you will need something smaller in diameter for a bar end weight.
Are they worth there money? seems like it so far.
