Or you could wire them through a relay. It's been mentioned here before. It allows you to run the grips directly off the battery but only be live when the ignition is on. The Standard 4 pin automotive relay cost me about �2 from Maplin.

Pin 85 - Battery -ve
Pin 86 - Ignition +ve (I used the ignition live from the alarm plug that you have found)
Pin 30 - Battery +ve (best with an inline fuse)

Heated grips
Negative - Battery -ve
Positive - Relay pin 87

You don't have to worry about overloading an existing circuit by adding 4A to it but your grips wont drain the battery if you forget to turn them off. I mounted the relay and the oxford controller on top of the air box in the space that was left when the snorkle was removed. I don't have any pics at the moment but I can try and take one tomorrow and post it.
