I do get a little worried when we start using this term 'real biker'. It's usually taken to mean riding all year round, rather than dry, summer, Sunday runs only. I think there is a danger in this way of thinking. When does a 'biker' become a 'real biker'? Might it sow the seeds of alienation if we start suggesting that you have to ride year through and only on an adventure bike to have credibility? Just food for thought - I'd be interested to hear people's opinions.

I get worried by the term 'real biker' too. I get worried because it means that people have already lost the knowledge that a bike is a mode of transport, same as many others that use the highways and byways. You don't call someone who does a lot of car miles a 'real driver' do you? I think the idea that you can only do it on an 'adventure bike' is preposterous (not a dig at you, just bouncing back your point), as I just said, a bike is a tool. Now a particular design of that tool may lend itself better to certain activities than other designs, but that doesn't mean they can't both do the same job. I would hope that people aren't so blinkered that they can't see the Tenere isn't perfect, but for me, it's ironing out those imperfections or coming to adapt to them, that make owning a bike more enjoyable in the long term.
