My TKC's are approaching the end of their useful life.

I would consider these as the tread pattern looks as though it would be good for winter roads.

... but are they any use off-road? or are the blocks to close together?

To The point... NO

mud or damp grass, no grip at all. Hard forest track's there OK, But there not a off road tyre.
They are however very good on tarmac wet or dry.

One thing I have noticed after two Rides around Scotland is that they seem to be wearing down quick, not sure yet if they will return the 6000+ miles That I got out of a rear TKC.
