haha, those two guys in that first clip, on the track.
If I can just plan a few more bends in to my journey to work, I'll have it. Seriously tho? I might get only a little bit enthusiastic from lights. The lights to bends ratio is poor on my car filled commute. I get a bit cautious tho, scared of going over, as the 'bail out' technique used by me on my pushbike is to jump off the back, lol. ;) Can't really do that on me XT. so Little first gear ones for me... I like the idea of a couple of ya mates holding the front of the bike up, to get a 'feel' of the balancing point. but it's the 'feel' of the floor if I fall off that makes me not really try too hard. ...and the Drifting stuff looks crazy fun, but where could I ever learn to do that safely, (except on a track I guess) and how do you learn to do the wheelie whilst sitting on your tank with your feet over the handlebars, spinning round on the spot?. er? ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT. |
i loved my sportbikes at the time but lookin back wish i got a supermoto years back, those clips truely amazing .All these years ive been tucking in to overtake when i should have been lifting the front wheel, you learn something new every day

How much of your licence can you lose, and I don't mean out ya back pocket,
if my loal 'friendly' UK police officer sees me using less than the recommended number of wheels to drive on a pulic road? Not that I'm a total hooligan, but I do like a grin. Can one lose their licence entirely for one little blip at the lights? One friend of mine said you get points, another said you can lose your licence. I guess every situation is different. Anyone had to use the 'My finger slipped off the clutch, officer.' excuse? |
i just sit at the lights or dump a gear and put on full gas and hope for the best hehe great fun apart from you shag your sprokets and chain :( and its a mission to get a front sproket :(

I said back in ma first post around early 07, that the xt was a hard bike to wheelie.. then a few posts later 8 months,, i said I found the xt to be the asiest bike out there tae wheelie.. well this is now 3 years later, an I can say personaly,, ive never had any of the KTMs or husky`s the fast moto`s,, but what I will say,,, I love the xt fur wheelies... so easy.. when ye know how......
|
Im sure ive commented in here before but after near 3 years with my bike ive found that first gear and a slip of the clutch is all it takes with most bikes. Although im not a wheelie demon or am constantly doing wheelies i find it very hard to hook up an extra gear and wheelies in second gear is a bit hit or miss really.
|
Hi there,
is it necessary to have all the 50hp of the XTX to wheelie it? I only have 34hp on mine. Only in first gear small "jumps" of the front wheel are possible. In second gear no way to get the front to rise up. I think that I would need more power (all the 50hp) or is it just my technique?:angry7: |
power is always fun... but its more bottle than power. my XT is standard apart from a Kev mod and wheelie in first too easy.... have a propper go. :coolsmiley:
|
34bhp means you must have a restrictor, you should be able to get it up in first but as for second your going to be ripping the clutch too much so i wouldnt try it.
Best way to practice i found is to get to about 10mph steady throttle then accelerate part throttle. Do this a few times then dip the clutch a bit for a couple of runs, than you can get the throttle position and clutch by messing about. |
I wrote a whole speal there an hit the esc button wi ma pinky... well am not writing it again..... jist look thrtu wheelie posts.....:loser:

Then I got all cocky and was spat off the back!!:bricks: To be fair, I was holding the clutch with only two fingers and they slipped when I gassed it.....:eusa_doh: |
This bloke's got it nailed

I keep being naughty,
Time to learn to do it properly. I was going to say safely. saf er maybe. Wheelie school. ;) fireblade600 and a runway, I'm ready. I think. Wish me luck. helmet-check, gloves-check, spare underwear - check. :p |
This guy doesn't seem to have any trouble taking his X offroad.. ;)

Whats with the twin levers??
|
Normally i'd guess decompression lever for the WR but as he was using it when wheelie'ing i'd guess its rigged to the back brake to control his wheelies when his feet are off the pegs.
Always wondered how those dudes did it. Well spotted. |
Yeah thats what got me, when he was on the back.
funky stuff! |
my guess with the 2 levers is the small blue lever looks like rear brake lever think thats why he can wheelie so slowly and when feet are over handle bars

As promised, a follow up from Wheelie School post.
9 till 3, but it started to rain abit about 2. By which point I was nackered so we finished. The whole experience was really good fun. There was just me and one other lad, so no real chance of collision ;) The guy running it, Jimmy, was super friendly and easy to get on with. http://i1028.photobucket.com/albums/y346/Fijjitt/1.jpg First Jimmy explained how the technique worked and broke it into bits, So first off was to practice the basics. Throttle control and Rear brake control. http://i1028.photobucket.com/albums/y346/Fijjitt/2.jpg http://i1028.photobucket.com/albums/y346/Fijjitt/3.jpg Then we put it all together and got abit confused... http://i1028.photobucket.com/albums/y346/Fijjitt/4.jpg So Jimmy shows us how it's done... http://i1028.photobucket.com/albums/y346/Fijjitt/5.jpg http://i1028.photobucket.com/albums/y346/Fijjitt/6.jpg http://i1028.photobucket.com/albums/y346/Fijjitt/7.jpg Then I get the hang of it :) http://i1028.photobucket.com/albums/y346/Fijjitt/8.jpg http://i1028.photobucket.com/albums/y346/Fijjitt/9.jpg Chuffed... http://i1028.photobucket.com/albums/y346/Fijjitt/10.jpg One of the best bits was going on the back while Jimmy pulled a few. Here's a pic of Anna looking comfortably relaxed.. A natural pillion ;) http://i1028.photobucket.com/albums/y346/Fijjitt/11.jpg Going on the back of Jimmy's was awsome, he showed 3 different hight wheelies. The first was fun, 2 runs of the runway at 45degrees (this was the hight I was aiming for), nice, Jimmy chatting away over his shoulder as we blast the length of the runway on the rear wheel. The second was abit more scary, clinging on at 60degrees this time. But still i could hear Jimmy chatting away as we did a couple of runs of the runway. The third, on the balancing point. Now I don't know if it was because I was on the back instead of riding position, But it felt wrong.. LOL. much, much higher than I initially thought was safe, almost like I'd rolled round under the rear of the bike.. AWSOME. Now I know what a wheelie is... :) Here's Jimmy, always smiling.. ;) http://i1028.photobucket.com/albums/y346/Fijjitt/12.jpg Well recommended if you in the area and fancy a day of having your arms pulled off. |
good post an good pics.
|
Looked like great fun. Have you managed to put those skills into practice on the XT yet? Did jimmy give you any tips which were appropriate for our bike.
|
LOL.. To be honest, no.
Now I've had a day on the runway, it's quenched my thirst abit. Think I'm going to go back and have another day with Jimmy. Then when I'm abit more confident I'll try it on the XT. The key he was teaching was to part throttle against the rear brake, this put tension on the upper part of the drivechain and pulled the swingarm up, lowering both the front and rear suspension. Then pull clutch and increase revs, then ping clutch and releae rear brake simultaneously. Boing, up she comes. It was harder than I thought it'd be, not like the little power wheelies I sometimes blip from the lights. The main difficulty was If you didn't get it all right, the bike just pulled away really quick without lifting the front, my arms and neck were well beat by the end. On his bikes it worked out to every extra 1000rpm was 15degrees height. So the 45degrees was 5 or 6000rpm (can't remember) and an increase of 1000 made it 60degrees and another 1000 made it 75degrees. Obvoiusly the XT doesn't redline at 12000rpm so it would be quite different, but probably not to hard to work out. Finding somewhere to practice is the thing. My commute is well busy and not the best place/time to try. A friend has recommended using Teco carpark after they close on a sunday as it is private land and you just get asked to move on when discovered. Dunno how true this is, might look into it. Anyone know? http://s0.geograph.org.uk/photos/87/...3_e7ebee05.jpg |
mrfijjit..... i will tell ye something here.... wheeling the xt will be a LOT easier than they big heavy streetfighters... try it on yer xt... that routine yer talkin about about slippin the clutch,,, theres a GREAT chance ye will not pull it up in 3rd gear,, so why dont ye try it an go thru all the sequences... in 3rd gear,,, it probably will not pull up,,
butg ye`l get the feel fur it,,, then when yer confident enough... try it in 2nd,, then it will pull up.... depending on where yer seating is,, an yer power... that will detrermine how far it will come up... ye will not flip it.. trying it out...its when ye get gallous an fullo beans an ye kin do them,, that theres a chance yel pull it up too far. but thats a while down the road yet... if ye can . buy a wee 250.. or a 125 an try the same... then ye will need a wee bit more revs tae pull it up, but ye`l get used tae it easier |
Hmm cctv of tesco carpark ...lol wheeli playground ....
lol |
Interesting to hear the throttle and rear brake explanation for dipping the suspention. Great to have a technical decription that explains the dynamics of the bike. Really helps to understand where my technique is going wrong. I'm always amazed how impossible it feels when i'm purposly trying, but how effortless it is when I accidently wheelie.
|
This chap "wdragon" :icon_king: who's a forum member does excellent wheelies as high as an XTX can go and then does mad stoppies.... to boot.. HellOOOOOOOOO are you out there wdragon? time to have your say.. ;0)

this wheeling lark is a piece of cake....2nd gear (about 30kph) clutch in rev bit harder then let clutch out as soon as the front is up and when you fill the balance point cover the back brake...small pressing on foot brake is now needed...(i find my arse is at end of seat to balance bike) to keep the front wheel up...change to while blipping the throttle but not to much revs change to 4th and same to 5th....seems easy enough but practise is needed...i learnt to wheelie on XR250 when i was 12
last weekend at motard track i clocked my speedo at 134kph in 5th gear |
Nice pics ;)
big wheelie too... I still haven't got it, but I haven't tried. Got a blasted letter through the door saying I was doing 39 in a 30 zone, OwwwW. Grrr. (no excuse, was just going home, same as everyone else.lol) So another ticket for wheelie offence, whatever they call it, is not needed. so it's back to 'where to practice safely' for me. Shame that wheelie school place isn't a short drive away from me. so for now here's another silly video. ;) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-Qu0...00RVAAAAAAAAAQ |
Sorry to hear about the speeding ticket...why not get a small rear plate made up I remember having one about 6" by 1" they are called show plates
Sent from my X10i using Tapatalk |
But then don't I just get an extra fine for illegal plates?
True, I dislike the large teatray on the back of my bike. If I was wheelieing up the road, they wouldn't have seen my reg, haha. ..slightly irrelavent, but I was thinking of looking for a reg number that would fit onto one line to have a smaller plate. |
The smaller plate on one line is what I was thinking....i used to live in london (dagenham) so in and out of traffic was normal to me and they don't see your plate lol yes you could get fined if you stopped that's up to you or get a plate made up with thinner letters and numbers most car shops should make them

Here in Blighty my m8 took his WR450 out after a rebuild
just around the block, came off an island & poppD up the front a little ways right in front of Mr Plod, thought he got away with it untill 2 Police cars turned up outside his house they gave him a ticket, section 18 or sumat, if they saw him or anyone else poppN Wheelies on it again then they take it off him & Scrap it, he sold it the next week & got another one |
i thought i'd add to this instead of starting a new thread...
so i have an xtx with only exhaust modifications and thought i'd have a go at some wheelies.. I have no problems getting the front up in 1st gear using both clutch and power techniques but can't do it in second gear. Im rolling at about 20-25 mph then clutching in rev the rpm's and popping clutch....the most i can get the front up is around 1 ft. Also pulling the front up doesn't add much.. What are ur guys techniques for getting it up in 2nd? what speeds are you rolling at and how much throttle u giving it? ta |
have you changed the rear sprocket? sit further back on the seat, stand with left foot on the rear foot peg and push down when you pop it
