upside-down fork for xt?

Hi kev, some time ago you wrote about your idea to fit an upside-down front fork on your xtx, you were looking for a Yz or WR fork. What about for this?
Thanks.

Kev 16-11-08 22:21

I still might do it. I have already done all the home work so know what needs to be done.:035:

It is still on my list of mods to be done. I am working on my ECU conversion at the moment, so I can get the PC5 when it comes out.

G'day boy's,it's been done & he didnt use Wr/Yz USD's:icon_cool:

Check this out http://yam-xt.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1476 It's very light on detail thought.:eusa_doh:

You are right Nobby it's been around for some time, the first time I saw one was back in 2006 it was done to a XT660.

Here is a real trick one http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=BXx3uohEmJE

i bought about ten years old yam yz 250 front end. i have a plan to maintain it and change springs to stiffer ones.

what do think....is yz front end tough enough to xt? i have changed some e mails with off the road people and they said that it is not going to work. main reason is too weak triple clamp. or so they said. i am just wondering that riding mx bike is quite tough at least in my experience. or is xt just so much heavier that this will be an issue?

what do you think???

YZ USD Forks

Hi Hono,
I'm thinking about replacing the front suspension same as you, except mine come from a WR450F. I spoke to the suspension specialist and told me we should pay close attention on fitting the brakes, mainly. Apparently the only issue is to switch to the proper spring rating which, as you'd mention, has to take into account the extra weight.
But first, we are going to try new springs and race tech emulators to see how it feels. I do mostly off road riding and the roads here are Baja 1000 grade! So I need to shave some extra weight of my bike by installing a 2 in 1 exhaust system from metal mule. At any rate this is just the start and hopefully, with in a few months, we'd have built a new dessert queen!
Cheers from sunny Sonora Mexico.

I see the OTR XT660 Rally Raid bike has upside-down forks... Didn't see them for sale anywhere on the site though?

Will they give good advice on what's best for free?

just send mail to otr. otr wp frontsuspension set (wp forks and otr triple clamps), if i remeber right, costs 1990 . quite expensive i think. you can buy allmost new mx bike without engine (rolling chase) from US for 1000 + shipping.

otr guys told me that triple clamps from mx/enduro bikes are too weak. otr triple clamp costs 679 .....

iam going to change my front end to mx front end.

Great job, what model bike are the forks & triple clamps off?

Is that a Raptor 700 cylinder that I see on your bike?

Yeah Kev, I spoke to George about this, he has a WP Fork, ohlins shock 686cc conversion, hydraulic clutch, 08 rear swingarm, some strange electronic injector from another bike, master cylinder from an R1, ported head and stage 3 cam, the lot, DNA 1 & 2, wavy galfer discs, Termignoni pipes and headers, and more bling bits, I forgot about.

Kev 11-05-09 02:01

LOVE IT.:eusa_clap:

marjani 11-05-09 08:28

oh my god, I really hope he is going to tell us more about the fork and clamp he's using. This mod is on top of my list;)

CaptMoto 11-05-09 08:49

Ask him, he speaks very good english :rant2:

tasos_z 11-05-09 19:58

Yes thats my war machine Gorillas and he's Hellenic.
The frond fork is from ktm smc so is the frond wheel, brake caliper and brake disk.the best of all was that we fit tha mask frond fender and the key switch on it the top plate of the forks is from a ktm lc4.the caster angle is the same as before so is the hight of the bike but the length is +1 cm.driving it gives you another taste i can change directions faster than before and i dont feel the weight of the bike.

Hey guys
I really need your help or/and opinion.
I bought really good Kayaba forks from yzf(250/450) with tripple clamps and wheel ofc. Do you have any experiences with modification of Tenere suspention? Do you think it will work this kind of mod??? Thx for any constructive opinion
