Chain Tentioner
I am having the same problem , but the pipe that goes up to my Akropoviks , is iterfearing withe the rubber.
It stops in turning and melts it , I tried a teflon roller , but it melted it before i got to work. My bike is also raised. I have filled an alluminium roller now , but I dont think its going to last too long. Anyone else found a solution yet? Oh and once the roller wears down , your chain runs against the Exhast pipe on deceleration and rattles like a ***** on rough roads. |
I have akrapovics and the roller just clears the pipe. Maybe you could sort your problem by loosening off all the bolts in the exhaust and having a fiddle so that the roller is cleared before bolting it all up tight again.
I now have Kev links on mine and the chain certainly its the roller, but no problems as yet. Maybe we should just treat the roller as a consumable? There should never be excessive strain on it- after all it's never subjected to the torque of the engine power as it's on the bottom run of the chain, unlike the rubber top one. |
hello lads, fitted new roller, loosened chain went for a 100 mile ride and everything seems to be okay ,ithink havin the chain a little bit to tight has put pressure on the roller causing it to smash SO BEWARE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
dont have your chain to tight. :toothy4:happy days. |

if you're using custom link raisers, you chain roller needs to be changed also for a smaller one. For instance, you can buy one from OTR. You will also need to buy a new bolt for that.
I use the xtx raisers on my xtr; in this case you can use the oem chain roller. On the attached pics you will see (from bottom till top) 1 OTR - 2. OEM XtX - and 3. OEM XTR link raisers. The OTR give you the best lift, really skyhigh, but you need to change the roller, otherwise you will damage the drive chain guide and roller, especially when driving offroad (sorry xtx friend, no offroad for you; buy a pair of xtr wheels? ;() The OTR roller even got a bearing, that's cool ;) greetings from Holland, marcel |
Hi guys
I know this is an old thread, but i thought i'd add my solution for the sake of the guys still wanting to install the "raised links". Kev warned me that i need to watch my bottom chain roller once i installed the shorter links to raise the rear. My roller was destroyed in no time. I could see that the reduced clearance caused by raising the rear made fitting a new roller impossible. On the bracket holding the roller, there is a hole closer to the frame (mine had a hole). It is smaller and lack the "welded on nut" at the back. I drilled this hole bigger (9mm i think_just check your roller bolt dia). I then removed the top roller, added a spring washer the same diameter as the inner chrome(?) bush(between the bolt head and bush, to make sure the roller turns easily), and bolted it onto the bracket with the help of a Nylock nut at the back. This seems to work for me.. I guess you don't have to remove your top roller, just buy a new one from Yamaha....or use your existing lower roller if you've read this before you do the conversion. I hope the photo helps. http://i493.photobucket.com/albums/r...g?t=1232390037 |
