In the UK, during the hours of darkness, unless it's in a marked parking bay, it's illegal to park facing the oncoming traffic, although I've never seen anyone fined for it!

Problem is that the passing car wouldn't have illuminated the bike then. Also it's an unlit single lane carriageway and the bike is resting against the reservoir wall on a little bit of dirt path, but importantly out of the road. Anywhere else and it was a hazard to passing cars. I wasn't there to take pics of the bike, I was after the reservoir, the bike shots were just before I left.
