People must not get confused between surging & drive line shunt, that comes with a high torque, lean burn, single & twin piston motors. Surging is like an elastic band effect, when the throttle is in a set position you get this light surging feeling. This can usually be fixed with fueling or ignition timing due to emission control or lean burn motors. Drive line shunt as it is known, is the kicking & bucking of the drive line against the engine braking at low engine speeds. That's why you have cushion drives in the back hub to try to absorb this effect. This can not be fixed as it is a characteristic of these bikes. |
Just wanted to update things and say thanks for the info.
PM from member confirmed my ECU was in fact a faulty one, dealer changed ECU and got back the beast today. I would guess its eliminated 75% of the problem and with a tweak on the CO setting another 5-10% like everyone has said it wont get rid of it all but its one hell of an improvment. Anyone that thinks their bike is surging bad really has to ride one without the ECU being changed to see whats its all about. Dealer even said thanks for technical details enclosed in post as they had been scratching their heads over one that they could not sort, seems they have only sold a couple xt's and hand't seen the Yamaha document attached. Thanks again everyone for your help. Tiny |

The frame number is stamped to the side of the steering head, the ECU number is on a sticker on the ECU which can be found under the black left hand side panel ,CHECK THIS LINK

As Tiny I have XT-R dated with 2006 year but with frame number string with 011 - that could mean the bike is actually 2004. I am about to have the first service, so would like to have the documents you attached while asking the dealer to check my ECU and replace it if necessary. Do you have those documents scanned with better quality I personally almost can read nothing from them. Thanks in advance. Thanks, Lyubomyr Humetskyy . |

i really wouldnt worry when i went into the dealers the fact that i had the documents was enough for them to know they existed and went off in search of their own copy. For a proper Yam dealer they obviously have the access required to get to the original and from what they said once they expalined to the people that deal with the warranty claims what was happening they immediatley knew what the problem was. Did the dealer have ECU in stock or it took some time until the new ECU were delivered to the local dealer? You also mentioned that somehow you identified that the original ECU was the old one. How did you do that? By the ECU number that finishes with 0 or 1? Lyubomyr. |
