Vote your favourite XTR Tyres
With this new tyre poll those of us who have tried various type of tyres on their R's can highlight their favourite choice for those who are new to the bike and might use the advice based on our experience to make their mind on their next purchase
You will find here a list of the most popular tyres all you have to do is vote for your favourite ones, you can vote as many as you like. Please also tell us what you were looking in a tyre and why you made that choice. Thanks |
Right i will keep this brief as my computer just deleted my post for this 2 secs ago. Beggar.
I have the Metzler Tourance on at the moment and had the bike for 2.5 weeks and around 900miles and find them great. The front is half worn and is still gripping, only had one slide on it but was due to massive diesal spill mid corner (any tyres would have slide). The rear is only about 1000miles scrubbed in and is still gripping fine. I have tryed to get the chicken wings off just cant/dont wanna lean the bike over any more or either my toes will get grinded off, my leg will not lift high enough or i might fall off. Only had one slide on the rear so far but i was pushing it hard to see what the bike had. Would i buy them again. Yea but i might try something more road basis next time as at the moment i dont plan on doing much off roading. |
Yust a remark: my original tyres are mez tourance.

Yes in few countries outside UK the XTR's come with Tourance, which in my view are the best option for these bikes, so you can count yourself lucky, at the end of the day Yamaha UK probably find it cheaper to fit the other tyres rather than the Tourances.

yeah i got the tourances... originally bought the bike with some crappy dunlops. With tourances i regenerated and my vote is definetly on them..great on road and on wet as well on so called white roads... mud isn't right environment for them :tongue[1]:

well i only compare these with my old dunlops.... white road would be gravel road not like acropolis rally road but little lighter gravel and i would say front tyre is fair enough on wet and greasy rear depends on throttle position |
ah get you now boss. Yea the tourances are good enough on white roads. The only thing that i can compare my tourance tyres 2 at the moment are my dads varadero which have the scorpions on or my old Deauville which had road basis tyres on which are good in the wet. So the tourance are probably good in the wet as there are a cross between off road and on road therefore less rubber on the ground.

Just fitted Pirelli Scorpion ST 90 Tyres

These are the street biased version and have high silica content.
So far I have done 800 miles on them and they are superbly grippy in the dry and much better than my Siracs in the wet. They felt a bit odd, like they were following their own tracks for the first couple of hundred miles but now I reckon they are perfect for an on road rider like me. :-) Any tips on pressure, I weigh 86 kg and tend to ride fast and solo, the manuf settings are 2 bar front 2.25 bar rear which I think is about (29/33) psi, the rear sounds a bit high to me unless I was carrying a pillion. |
