Side Panniers for XT660R ?

Hi all

I've seen these side bags on GetGeared:
http://www.getgeared.co.uk/acatalog/...e_Bag_Set.html

Obviously they will be resting against the exhausts, although the exhausts are standard and have the covers on which do not seem to get much more than 'warm'.

Are something like these likely to be OK for the bike ? Has anybody got any other recommendations ?

Cheers - Steve

Those actually look quite trendy. It doesn't mean I'd get some, mind you, but I am sure for those cannot do without them, due to travelling needs these bags offer a nice aestetic compromise to those horrible Oxford ones

Steve,

Depends how you plan to use them and how much gear you want to carry about.
I've just placed an order with off-the-road.de for a set of Hepco and Becker aluminium panniers but then I need the capacity and the security. One thing's for sure...they wont melt on the exhausts!
I'll post pics when they arrive.

I have the Hepca Becker Gobi hard luggage, fantastic kit if you want to go down the hard luggage route. Pictures on this site at http://www.xt660.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=293&c=8

SJA are they plastic? They look really good but look like silver coloured plastic.

Well, I'll report back soon. For 50 I took the plunge and ordered them yesterday and they just arrived. I'll fit them for a trip I have to do later and will report back on Friday ...

Gobi's are Silver coloured plastic. A mate of mine has them and I can confirm that they're a top bit o' kit. You can even get a tap fitment for the top boz so you can carry a few litres of drinking water in the cavity between the outer and the inner! Proper solid boxes though, the next best thing to metal IMHO. Bloody expensive mind!

Mic.

I bought mine from Motobins (BMW Dealer) who were really helpful, prices are on their web site at;
http://www.motobins.co.uk/displaypro...ND+ACCESSORIES
Currently 290 + VAT the pair think I paid about 130 for the rails/rack assembly. Seem to remember it came in at around 580 all up.

It might be worth noting that the H&B pannier rack is not compatible with the much sexier looking Touratech top rack, as I found at the weekend. The H&B racks are pretty cool though and I reckon that if I modify the top rack slightly I'll be able to have both back on the bike together. :digging:
