Swapping ecu, bike wont start

Im having some issues with my bike,
Couple of weeks ago i went out on the bike, pulled in for fuel and after filling up it wouldnt start back up, after turning the key the red temp light comes on and it will just turn over but not fire over, the fuel pump doesnt prime and also it wont go into diag mode, it did come up with error 1 and error 2.

Bike was recoverd home, i charged the battery over night and it fired back up in the morning so i thought it was ok, rode for a few miles and soon as i turned off the bike it refused to start again with the same problem, this time it started back up after about 30 mins of me dissconnecting the battery, ecu, and trying to jump start it.
When it started back up i rode it straight home and whilst riding the error one and temp light flashed up for a few seconds and then didnt return.

I took off the battery and went to a battery shop to get it tested and result was its in very good shape.
A week or so later i started the bike back up and was fine, went out but didnt go far incase it happend again and when i got back to my street i turned it off and again the same problem, after unplugging the ecu for 10 mins it started back up.

Now when i go to start it it does the same thing but unplugging the ecu did nothing this time.

Bike is a 2008 xtr with 14k miles
It has the 5vk-8591a-10 ecu

If the ecu is toast can i just swap it for another one of the same or could i put the ecu ending in 11 into the bike or are they coded to the bike directly and would need to go to yamaha?

Its worth noting that it was in an accident last year where the headlight fork protectors were damaged but it ran perfect for around 2k miles after it was fixed.

Any help would be great

Welcome to the forum..have you checked the wiring around the headstock at all?..maybe there's some breakage/stress in the wiring ..

No i havent bit it doesnt seem tight,
I know i will have to strip it down at some point but im hopeless at electrics.

I was hoping i could just swap between ecu�s but if that would fix the problem or not is another question.

I thought the bike had been in a front end accident but had run since..
TBH I would check the wiring as a first simply to check for any breaks etc before you go buying parts.

Just checked the error code sticky..yours do indicate ECU link issues

Yeah it has a crash but ran for over 2k miles since with no issues untill now, i will look at the headstock area tho

you can't just swap ecu modules. They are coded to the ignition lock's red key and vice versa and it's massively unlikely to be an ECU failure.

interesting to see you have a good start up and run when cold (left overnight / cool down or left for a while after failing to start) which is coupled with a temperature (hot) warning light at the time of failure.

My guess would be your motor has an overheating issue, or a failing temp sensor. Check your cooling circuit / fluid levels / radiator for damage (crash repair) / thermostat accuracy

Seems unlikley to be overheating to me as as when i was testing the issue out i rode around the block 1min worth of riding and the shut off the engine, then it wouldnt start.
Now when i tried to start it this morning it wouldnt even start giving the same temp light and no fuel pump priming.

The last time i rode it i started it up then was riding close to home for around ten mins, started back up fine so went out again and ventured a little further, back home and started up normal again so for the 3rd time i stayed out riding for around 30-40 mins and started back up as normal when i got home.
Only this morning about 4 days later it wont start at all:/

Looks like it needs stripping down to check the loom, gotta wait for the right time for that as i do the work in my garden and i have no garage or shed.

Mines been sat in my back room for five months waiting for a new garage to appear!..

Have you visually checked your coolant level??

Yeah coolant level is fine, would�nt think a low level would prevent it starting but ill double check tomorrow just incase
