To use a chain monkey properly you still ideally have to get yourself a baseline setting. Chain Monkey suggest getting that from the owners manual, which isn't (as we can see from this thread) always that accurate. This is why it is always best to get a 'real world' starting point by getting everything in line. Once you've done that and the linkages bones etc. are connected back up, you can screw up the Chain Monkey until there's no slack, mark the scale and you've got your setting for future use... and I bet you any money you like this setting will not be the same as that calculated from the owners manual. ;)

I don't know about the Z but on my X I put the bike on a jack so the weight is off the back wheel as it says in the manual and then adjust it to about 44mm-50mm slack. Never had a problem or had the chain touch the swingarm either. Hope this is of some help!

For me I cannot measure there is space for 30 mm measurement but the slack should be around 45 mm. I just do it on sight and see the chain isn't hanging of to much that's it for now .... Have no idea of its too much or to few slack tbh ... I assume everyone just random does something like mentioned above they just use a monkey and it differs also from the manual so I should be ok I assume .. As long as it aint to tight but the chain always rubs slightly over de lower chain hold rubber ( circle rubber )
so It should be fine I guess.

Thread Resurrection time....IF I follow the advice on how to getting the baseline setting on my R would that setting be the same for all R's?..

Shaolinfist 14-12-17 14:14

Unless its modified should be the same.
