Dunlop 606's

Seeing as it has been flogging down with rain for over a week, I thought I'd whip the wheels off as the rear Pirelli MT60 was nearly done & try something a bit more off road oriented. After the usual scouring of the web for info the local bike shop fitted a pair of 606's to loose rims for $220 (about 100quid) That'll do me thank you very much.
The normal rear size is 130/80 17 but the 606's are 130/90 17 so I'm guessing this makes the outer circumference of the wheel a bit larger effectively raising the gearing slightly. So the speedo will probably now be a bit less than 10% out?
Anyhow looking forward to getting out on them soon.

That's a serious looking tyre Desert Racer. ....should be good on the dirt! What are the temperature's like at the moment Down Under...? Steve

Desert Racer 25-03-17 08:43

Well Steve it has been stinking hot (close to 40 degrees some days) for longer than it should have for a while before the late rain. But now it's around high 20's low 30's a lot more pleasant. As we're getting closer to 'winter' it's better for off road antics as it's not much fun dragging your bike out of a hole in summer mid day sun! I'm planning on heading into Byfield national park, 2 hour ride north in a months time which has a mix of hard pack, Forrest tracks, gravel roads & sand down to the beach.

Dunlop 606's

Let's hope so jo75, now the wheels are back on, my bike is now officially more capable than I am!
With a short reprieve in the rain it's started again and will do for a bit longer as Cyclone Debbie moves in towards the coast 750k's north of here. Due to hit on Tuesday people are evaluating the line of fire with it predicted to be the worst since Yasi 5 years ago. They're in for a rough ride in the Aye & Hamilton Island region.

I know what you mean about the front, My first choice was a Pirelli MT21 but wasn't in stock so just took the 606 for a bit of cheap fun in-between tyres.
Look forward to a beer :onetequila:
