Stolen/recovered Bike purchase
I'm just in the process of looking at bidding on a recovered 2013 tenere, however it is pretty rough and so I'd like to ask some questions.
What I know/Don't know - no key, ignition destroyed - can't start it (no key) - don't know the km's - missing several plastics, air filter side covers, tank shouds, headlight cowling - missing windscreen - snorkell inside the are box?? - fuel tank is unbolted and the fuel line is disconnected - missing spark plug Like I said it is pretty rough and I'd have to get it for a good price to warrent fixing. I've attached some photo's but I'm unsure of what some of the wires are supposed to be plugged into, are there other electrical parts missing that I'm unaware of? http://s1255.photobucket.com/user/DA...3yocr.jpg.html Thanks in advance Dan |
That thing redefines a bit rough. Looks like a very expensive exercise if it was given away. You might want to invest in some Nurofen first for all the headaches to follow. Good luck with it.
P.S The green & black plug would have just plugged straight into the front indicators mounted on the missing plastic from the tank to the headlight cowl. Not sure of the other one, from the ignition maybe? |
The circuit board looks like an immobiliser bypass

To be honest. ..you could pour a lot of time and money into this project. ...have a brutally realistic think about if you wouldn't be better off buying an older second hand one that's had a 'good ' life. Steve

As a minimum you are going to have to get an ECU, ignition barrel, immobiliser antenna which will set you back1076/$1710 new! Even then that isn't going to get it anywhere close to running. It's also a 2008 model, eight years old and probably would only be worth (here in the UK) maybe 2500-3000 in good roadworthy condition with an unblemished history. As others have said, by all means bid on it, but set yourself a rigid maximum bid based on its value as spares... and stick to it. If you win and it looks like it can be restored economically then that's great, but if its a lemon you can get your money back in parts and walk away. Personally speaking, I wouldn't bother with it unless you can get it for less than 400/$650. |
Thanks for all your feedback.
The Auction says it's a 2013, can anyone else confirm it is a 2008? If it is then based on this and $3000 parts list it really wouldn't be viable to purchase |
Iirc that beige colour was only available at the start of the 660 tenere introduction @2008.

As above 'baby sick' or Desert Khaki was only offered for MY2008. However, looking more closely it seems like it could have been a white one which at some point was sprayed baby sick beige to hide its ID. Still doesn't make it a 2013 model as white was only an option in 2008, 2011, 2012 and 2015 (although this is bizarrely called Race Blu!) Also I have just noticed it has the MY2009 on stitched seat cover.
Have a look at the VIN plate under the seat (if it's still there!) PM me the VIN number and engine number and I will confirm the build month and year. A quick give away to its rough age is by looking at where they were made (visible on the frame under the seat). If it's Italy, then 2008/9, Spain 2010-2012 and France mid-2012 onwards. |
