2017 models

Is it true that the XT660 won't be available next year as the bike won't pass the new emissions test?

Desert Racer 28-07-16 05:35

Yes I believe so. :sad1:

Yes.....but does the UK need to be 'Euro' compliant any more, post Brexit. ..? Steve

You'd think Yamaha would have something in the pipeline to follow it up. It's been too successful.

XT660 is no more. The aging Minarelli engine would need far to much investment for it to meet EURO IV emissions regulations.

EURO IV comes into effect on January 1st 2017. The UK will still be part of the EU then. Plus, I can't see Yamaha carrying on production just for what is a tiny UK market - they've only sold 17 XTZs from old stock so far in 2016! All remaining stock must be pre-registered by dealers before 31/12/2016 or no one will be able to sell them - expect some bargains to be had.

The production capacity in France is now completely taken up by MT-07, XSR700 models already (and soon to be XT700Z). An XT660 hasn't come off the production line since December 2015.

What a shame. They'll have to come up with something for this sector of the market, though.

What does this actually means for this here forum, will it survive on the long run? I think it has enough potential for XT660 owners for years to come, like other forums are for other XT models(XT500, XT600 and Tenere). What y'all think?:tenere: RULES!

the 700 is coming so there is still life in the tenere yet..

but i also have a TTR250 and like the 660 has now become a discontiued
model and there is a slow down of late in TTR.com....
the bikes are now becoming 3rd/4th hand... becoming cheap hacks in a lot of cases
& the owners are not interested in forums like with a new or near new bike..

...

Yep. The XSR700 was the first to start being assembled at the MBK plant in the December last year. It is expected that, when the XT700 (or whatever they call it) arrives, it will also be assembled alongside the other 680cc twins in France. The general consensus seems to be that the new XT will be revealed to the public at the EICMA Milan show in November although there is no official word yet.

All depends on the price I guess. If it's pitched as competitively as the MT-07 is, which is unquestionably a bargain, then a lot of people will be tempted. On the other hand, if it's overpriced, like the 660 Tenere has been for the last five years then I guess most will stick with what they've got.
