Yorkshire dales trail ride anyone interested??

Planning another yorkshire dales ride out. Good mix of twisty roads and good long green lanes. Beginners welcome. I will suggest a tkc 80 or equivalent trail tiding tyre will be of use. ARN managed on road tires last time.
Also Punctures can happen. I will be carrying all the necessary tools and will glady help anyone, but you will need at least a spare front tube. ( can be stuffed in the back too get you home)
Lots of stops for pics, videos, banter and brews.

Full day out riding 8am - 5/6pm. Basically any weekend day that we can all agree on. Im gnna open the bidding with sat 20th August or sunday 21stAugust. Meeting point too be arranged.
So come on guys put down your :Knitting_22PFUP: and grab your gear, you wont regret it.

Oldandwornout 24-07-16 22:35

Hi Jon , would love to try out the Dales , checked and the first date I can do is 20/21st as work funny shifts plus will need at least one night away as coming from Cambridge , early Sept would suit as well unless weekdays are possible ? Sorry to be awkward .
Cheers Mark

Arn 25-07-16 12:01

I'll be there. The 6th works for me, as does the 20/21st. The only time I can't make would be the weekend of the 13th.

I won't be on road tyres this time so I might even keep it the right way up!

jon660z 25-07-16 14:58

Thanks for the reply guys, Mark no problem at all, well change it too the 20th/21st of Aug.

Which day would be better for you guys?? I can do both If you wanted. we could even do peak district or my local trails as well if your stopping over a night?? Say dales sat and peak district sunday?? Plenty of bnbs/ bunkhouses/ pubs around. Im easy.

If your travveling up mark u can leave gear at my house save u lugging it around the trails.

Great too hear from you Arn. Looking forward too another ride out. :-) have you done much trail riding since??

keithy2 25-07-16 18:23

ride out

Hi John cant make 20/21st week end but I would love to have a go in the peak district have done the trials we did around hawes a couple of times since, still got tkc 80 front but now a heidenau k60 scout rear. if the dates change I would love to tag along.:045:

Oldandwornout 26-07-16 22:11

Hi Jon , either 20/21st or both is good for me if everyone's happy with that and my body can take it? I'd probably come up on the Friday (slow bimble through peaks) and head back either Sunday or Monday if we do 2 days , camping if weather plays ball. If the others want to do different dates no problem I'll come up another time when work does'nt get in the way.
Cheers Mark

Mark if you want too do both days theres a campsite not too far from me. Not aure on prices though. http://hollingworthlakecaravanpark.com or

I could meet your for a pint or a few beers after the ride.

It's worth going just to see Arn put up his tent!

(PS Arn, have you got a proper one yet?)

I might be able to meet up somewhere, perhaps camp for the night.
Will monitor this thread.

Steve

Arn 16-08-16 21:14

Steve,

It's 45 minutes away for me. There's no chance of me making up that hour and a half by putting a tent up.

Oldandwornout 16-08-16 21:55

Arn , you know you want to put that tent up in the pouring rain ha ha should be use to it after Wales , Be good to see you Steve if you can make it , I'll be at the campsite in Jon's post from Friday.
Cheers Mark

Come and join us Steve, Itll be great fun :-) you kniw you want too.
:077:

Right guys routes are provisionally planned. Well see how progress goes throughout the day as too how much we get done. There are unfortunately a few long road sections due too the distances between lanes but theyre still scenic and i promise the lanes are worth it.

How "adventurous" do you boys want too get?? There are 3 lanes a can miss out that i do regularly but one involves 2 river crossings and the other 2 have large stone steps. Easily avoidable so dnt worry if you dont want too do them. All the steps will be ridden :sign16:

And stalling busk may have too be avoided anyway if the rain is heavy due too rising water levels.

This is one of the stepped lanes we will be travelling down

River crossings

These are the stone steps on sundays ride.

http://i607.photobucket.com/albums/t...psmuxwgsad.jpg

Like i say all easily avoidable, amd i do not mind in rhe slightest missing them out, but some people i take out want challenging lanes. The rest of the route as Arn can testify is less extreme.

Can be discussed sat morning over coffee and mc muffins ;-)

Arn 18-08-16 11:19

I'm sure I'll regret saying this but I'm comfortable doing steps and river crossing. Might as well learn how to do all this stuff while there are people around to help me pick my bike up.

Spoken like a true Adventurer matey good on you. If we get there and anyone isnt comfortable just lemme know. We can always turn around.

Oldandwornout 18-08-16 12:21

Not sure my old bones will handle some of that and I do have a habit of falling off , but never say never !!

jon660z 18-08-16 13:06

No worries Mark. Daftest lanes ommitted. Tbh ive just checked and the weather looks a little damp so im going too leave out stalling busk. As the river level rises with not much rain fall.

Should be great weekend guys. Prepare for some spectacular sight seeing as well as awsome lanes.

Honestly the guys i dont want too put anyone off my ride outs. Anything, anyone isnt 100% comfortable with can be avoided. Ill show you the best the dales has too offer. And ill help with techniques etc and if all else fails ill give you a push.

All i ask is you turn up and enjoy it. And if i drop my Tenere help me pick the fat ****** up haha :nana:

Oldandwornout 19-08-16 12:05

I dont blame you Mark. Weather isnt looking too great. But in our favour is that 90% of the route is rocky and stoney hardly any mud.

steveD 19-08-16 19:44

As the weather is so lousy I'm thinking of passing on this one as I'm also very busy and want to get to a meet in Holland in a couple of weeks time.
My current customer wants me to get the job done quickly so I'm gonna work the weekend to try and get up to date.
If Mark was camping then I would have definately camped as well but I'm not gonna camp by myself.
I did have a look at the B&B in shaw but at 160 for two nights that's a NO from me as I'm only half an hours ride away in any case.
I will see how I get on tomorrow morning and then see how things are, possibly get the B&B for Saturday evening so I can go for a few beers with Mark.
PS Just fitted new Mitas E07's, not even scrubbed in yet.
Mark if you can get this thread you can get me on 07752906130.

Cheers Steve

jon660z 19-08-16 19:51

Well day one.
It rained.......... Alot.
I managed too cover 183.3 miles door to door. It rained for 160ish of them. Hence only a few Pictures. Was great fun though, Mark and Arn made excellent company and did fantastically on the seriously slippery terain the dales had laid out for us. We managed 7 of the 13 lanes planned. The rest would have been impassable due too the horendous weather.
Few pics.

Welllll day 2, it rained a tiny bit. We managed 21 of.the 23 lanes planned, the weather was much kinder too us today than yesterday.

We found Stevie D in the west wing of his not so humble camping abode and arranged.too meet him mid route for lunch. 83ish miles covered today, with plenty of lanes.
Heres a few pictures.

steveD 22-08-16 21:23

Hi chaps, really glad that I made this one.
Had a pleasant night camping at the Hollingworth camp site. Tried to find Mark in Shaw to no avail so had to go back to my tent and drink my whiskey by myself!
Tent behaved superbly, shame I missed Arn, always have a good banter with that one.
The lads came to see me Sunday morn', they set off to do a few trails and I came home to unload all the camping gear and just take enough to make tea and a few tools. Note the flattened down panniers, try and do that with your ally boxes!. I met Jon and Mark at Compos cafe in Holmfirth and we had some lunch then we went off to do a few trails. Quite adequate for me and no injuries to either myself or the bike. Really enjoyed Jons choice of routes and we had a tea stop later on.
A really good time was had by me at least, we'll have to do it again.
Arn, get a decent tent and some wet protection!
Only got a couple of pics, will try and post later.
