Opinions on the 1200 Super Ten please

Morning all :tongue3:
It's been an absolute lifetime since I've been on here.
I'm giving some thoughts to trading in my current bike ( FZ 1000 Yamaha ) and getting a Super Ten ZE
My mate has a 15 plate one and I was impressed by the way it performed.
Are there any nasty issues with it what are it's good and bad points?
I'm not interested in general slagging down of my current bike or every other bike out there, just good old honest feedback please.
My first bike was a 2008 plate XT660X in orange and you can find pics of me on it in the first Lakeland ride thread if it's still on here.
Cheers Bear ( it's been a very long hibernation )

Ive got a xt660z and my father has the s10.
The s10 is very nice lots of power and better on the road.
My tenere on the other hand is taller and better offroad.
Both great bikes. What sort of riding would you be doing?

It would be general riding with a few long weekend's thrown in for good measure.
No off roading
I like the idea of the longer tank range and the ability to have boxes on it rather than packing stuff in a rucksack.
If the timings right and I get one I'd like to do the lakes ride again.

Hes back, long time no see

Havent ridden or owned the S10 but from what ive read is nothing major is an issue, which I think if Nick Sanders can take one up and down all over the show and have the engine stripped with no issues I think they are quiet bulletproof.

Only bad thing ive heard about them is compared to other bikes in this class its a bit bland, but then again that's being compared to larger more powerful bikes where in my eyes its not comparing like for like

I've a mate who was one, you'll need a pipe and a map from BSD you'll then have an extemely effective bike and as bland as dishwater, all depends on if you want a bike or an appliance.

Max is right, they are a little 'bland' to ride, not exiting or blood pumping but very stable and well balanced. I must have tried all the 'adventure' variants (except BMW) and I would say that the S10 is the best out of the 1litre class.

I opted for the Crosstourer to compliment the Tenere, mainly for it's V4 and Varadero DNA, but having tried the rest, had a Yamaha dealer been closer I would have taken the S10.

If this helps at all....

Thanks for the answers guys
Basically I got made redundant after 10yrs so I'm giving some thoughts to using some of my pay out if\when I get it ( long story can't be bothered to explain ) to get the S10
My mates got one and he gives it an 8 out of 10 but I just want a few more opinions on the bike so keep em coming
Cheers guys

Best way to make your mind up ride a 1290 KTM a Multistrada and an XR that's when you will find the game has moved on,the question being 'Are you prepared to pay that much'

Got off my Tenere to test ride one and was instantly surprised with the 'feel' of the size. The 660 actually physically felt bigger to sit on but wow what a difference onroad. The S10 just effortlessly pulls away and sits beautifully on the tar, what a dream to cruise on.
Would i be throwing it around in the bush..no, some do but I see it more as a lazy two-up or fully loaded tourer that I would be comfortable heading down some dirt track to get to a destination.
All depends on your choice of riding I guess.
Still a very big bike that I wouldn't want to be picking up loaded, you would have to plan and execute that recovery carefully or blow out very quickly.
Good luck and keep us updated..
Matt.

Traded my S10 in for a Tracer. Great bike if you're going tour or two up riding but for me and my style of riding it was just too heavy.
