Tenere wont start
Hi folks wondering if anyone has had this problem....and knows what the problem is...rode my tenere to work but when I came out she wouldn't start.the immobiliser light is flashing 5 times then 3 times with Iignition on.i tried it with the red key but still the same thing.does anyone have any ideas ?.thanks

its immobilizer unit fault ( code 53): noise interference or disconnected lead/cable
1- check the wire harness and connector (and pray this one to work) 2- replace main switch 3- replace ecu i hope u can fix it mate |
As above. Code 53 can potentially be bad news. However...
I came across a chap during the summer who couldn't start his TDM after filling up with fuel. Same code 53. We fiddled about for ages with no luck until he started emptying his tank bag out and then the cause revealed itself - a car key! With that out of the tank bag, and out of the way, the bike started. Anyway, to cut a long story short, what had happened was that whilst paying for his fuel he had removed his wallet and some other bits and pieces from his backpack (including the car key). When he returned to the bike he had apparently put them in his tank bag, rather than back in the backpack for some reason. So when he tried to start his bike, the car key (with its transponder) was now near enough to the bike's immobiliser antenna to interfere with the signal and cause it not to start. So there are some simple (and cheap)causes for a code 53. Let's hope yours is! Got any car keys in your pocket? ;) |
Thanks guys
I surely hope its not the ecu...il arrange to get it home and check out the connectors...thanks for the advice.fingers crossed.cheers

Hope its not the ECU. I am currently having to have ECU replaced on mine and its not cheap.

Did yours flash up the same fault code.how did you diagnose it was the ecu rather than the immobiliser.been really disappointed in the quality of this bike...would certainly put me off buying another

Got bike home...put it on optimate overnight...went out this afternoon switched ignition on and no fault code and bike started....weird.....

Now it's working, measure the voltage across the battery terminals and make a note of it. If (let's hope not) it happens again (the immobiliser problem), measure the battery voltage again. If there's a difference between the two, it'll help to confirm the problem is with a voltage drop. Then you need to ask yourself where/why the voltage is disappearing! Maybe worth checking to see if anything is leaking voltage to earth? Is the bike charging at the correct voltage? Perhaps it's time for a new battery? |
Thanks for the replys...bike is still playing up.charging system is working dead on and battery holding its voltage.ride the bike to work. ..stop it and the immobiliser flashing 53 again.after work spent halfnhour turning the ignition on and off and eventually heard the fuel pump prime and bike started. Once home and turned off it refused to start again.has anyone done an immobiliser bypass or used a xxxx xxxx xxxx. Thanks

Please do not pass on the info on how to over ride the immob in the open forum otherwise it could fall into the wrong hands & all your XT's could be stolen at any time in a min. If anyone can help please use the PM system on this subject.
