XTR and XTX Radiator Guards

I'm just finishing up some designs for rad guards for the X and R and was wondering which (if any) designs people like. The designs below are for the R and for the 2004-2006 X. I have designed the rad guard for the '07 onwards as well and the designs are the same (apart from it being different dimensions and flat). If you'd like to see any other designs/logos I'd welcome any suggestions

Coming soon on here. I made some for the tenere and had a few people ask if I could do them for the X and R. I'm just after a bit of feedback on the designs to see which ones people like. I'll be making a few prototypes in the next couple of weeks to make sure they fit perfect then I'll put up a post in the main forum with some pics and details.

Dave,

Good to meet you yesterday and thanks again mate for letting me use your bike to fit the first one to! Looks cracking.

Looking forward to seeing it in the special colour!

I'd go for one of those X guards. I'd have it anodised (black), iv'e bought a lot of protection lately and it would be better sold anodised to match the bikes (I think). Anyhow, like the design, i'll keep an eye out for a while. I have a piece of 5$ alum mesh, it actually 'looks' great on the Xtx but wont 'stop' much (like sticks).

Just test fitting the XTR guard on a mates bike to make sure if fits and looks good and when I'm happy, I'll be putting the XTX and XTR guards into production  There will be a choice of logos and where the logo is located.

Ozzz 07-03-14 10:50

I'll keep watching! I just had to cut the plastic top brackets off the radiator (both cracked and iv'e seen others mention the same). Be much sturdier now with metal brackets and better protected with a new guard!

Let us know when you get going, (or if you decide not to go ahead..) ;)

assenvas 07-03-14 20:09

Dave,

How can I buy one of these?

Thx

aliwakeskate 07-03-14 20:54

Ha, looks great. I'm wondering what that is on the front of the tank cover /guards? That guard secton, is it separate to the side cover, I don't have them on my X, perhaps I have aftermarket side covers.. or they are on your mates R or something..?

All the XTR's (like my mates black R in the pic) have a slightly curved rad guard as do XTX's from 2004-2006. The XTX from 2007 onwards has a flat rad guard (pic of Daves bike on the first page) with no side covers.

Ozzz 08-03-14 01:45

Ok, I was meaning the front 'grill' bit on the plastic tank/ side covers though..

XTR and XTX Radiator Guards

Hi All,

After making radiator guards for the tenere some members were asking if I could make them for the XTX and XTR. Ive come up with some designs that Im happy with, thanks to feedback from various people here. Big thanks to Dave-xt660x and qwerty (Rog) who let me fit a couple of prototype guards to both the XTX and XTR, so Im now ready to start making them.

http://i1083.photobucket.com/albums/...07_resized.jpg

http://i1083.photobucket.com/albums/...ed99ec30b7.jpg

http://i1083.photobucket.com/albums/...s/DSC_2376.jpg

http://i1083.photobucket.com/albums/.../DaveXTX01.jpg

All the guards are laser cut from 1.5mm thick stainless steel. They can either be polished to a high gloss or powder coated satin black (other colours are available I just need to check with my powder coaters). All the guards will be supplied with stainless steel bolts and aluminium spacers to attach to the bike.

Heres the designs that will be available:

http://i1083.photobucket.com/albums/...nDakartext.jpg
http://i1083.photobucket.com/albums/...ds-XTRtext.jpg

If you are interested in one then either PM me or reply to this thread to let me know which design you like and whether youd want it polished or powder coated. If you want one for an XTX then let me know the year of the bike as pre 2007 bikes have a curved guard whilst post 2007 bikes have a flat slightly larger guard. By registering your interest youre not committing to a sale or anything, I just want to get a rough idea of how many (if any!) I should make. If I get enough interest, Ill make up a batch and get back to you to see if you would like to buy one.

Prices: Polished Stainless Steel
Standard - 50.00
XTX/XTR Logo - 55.00
Dakar - 60.00

Prices: Powder Coated Satin Black
Standard - 55.00
XTX/XTR Logo - 60.00
Dakar Logo - 65.00

P+P will be 6.50 in the UK for recorded delivery. Im happy to post internationally but youll have to let me know where you are and Ill get a postage estimate.

If youve got any questions or want to know anything, just ask away. Feedback always welcome!

Cheers,

Al

No problem Ozzz. Postage to Australia is 20.00. That's how much it cost to send the tenere rad guards recently, so it should be the same.

Ozzz 13-03-14 00:12

Yeah, ok, i'm in. That makes one of us? : (

aliwakeskate 13-03-14 09:42

Ozzz, don't worry I'll definitely be making a batch of these in the next few weeks

nethen 13-03-14 19:39

No problem Husky - stainless XTX 09 guard. Do you want the logo in the middle or the bottom?

Have a look here at the designs.

Nice work.

No problem Hamslay. Any preferences to which one you want?

Just an update. Dropped off some parts at the powder coaters yesterday and I should be cutting some other parts next week so for those who have shown an interest in the radiator guards there should be some ready in just over a week. I'll let you all know the details and pm you when ready. In the meantime, here are a few more pics of guards I sent off to the powder coaters...

I've also made a sprocket guard for the tenere and will be testing it this weekend on the trails to see if it works and doesn't interfere with anything. I think it will fit the XTX and XTR and I can easily re-design it with the XTX and XTR logos. I shall investigate to see whether it will fit...

Either 660R middle or XTR middle. I'm really not fussed. Surprise me! :)

Dave-xt660x 06-04-14 05:43

Alright Dave :icon_thumleft:. I've not tried fitting to X or R yet but will do soon. Either model bike (X, R and Z) you have to re-route the sidestand switch cable so it goes underneath the gear lever and use a cable tie to keep it out the way. Easy enough to do.

I did a field test last weekend off roading in Wales. No problems what so ever! The main reason for me making one was that with the original plastic enclosed cover you can get a build up of muck which acts as a grinding paste on the chain (and I like the look of the more open cover!). I checked when I got back and it looked pretty clean around the sprocket so it certainly did it's job.

Hamslay 12-04-14 21:13

I received my radiator guard this week.

Firstly, it was really well packed. Really well. Very professional job. Fast delivery too.

I didn't get a chance to fit it until today but the instruction were clear and it was on in seconds. It's a superbly made bit of kit and looks ace on the bike.

Thanks Al! Great job.

I do 'over pack' them a bit , I don't trust the postie to not kick it around! (plus, think of all the fun you can have with that bubble wrap!)
