Hunday cush rubbers fitted today. I had to sand off some height from the joining tab in order to get the wheel back in the swinging arm but they're in now. I'll see how they feel/last over the next few weeks.

Hey Hunday, thanks for the rubber!

There seems to have been asked the same question a couple of times and I see the confusion, I'm not up with bearings but the only listing I could find was for 'single row bearings' sometimes listed as 62304 but same size as:
62304-2RSR Deep Groove Bearing (20mm X 52 X 21)

Is this the bearing in mind? Or is there a 62304/Different bearing iv'e missed?

Cheers.

Fitted my Hunday supplied Polyurethane Cush Rubbers today along with the Teknik Suspension (Sydney) modified hub (in essence this is the same modification outlined in a preceding post).

So let the assembly begin I cleaned everything, refitted the rear sprocket and test fitted the hub into the wheel to check the fit all good so far then I test fitted the new cush pieces trouble begins now

I had noted one post saying they had to sand the connecting web down well after about 40 minutes of mucking around it still didnt sit properly so cup of coffee and a hard think results was use a scalpel to cut the whole bloody connector web off and trim the face flush the rubber ones generally fall apart fairly quickly so I didnt think that would be an issue surprisingly when water is used the Polyurethane cuts quite easily.

Managed to stab myself with the scalpel while cutting the last one and bled like a stuck pig for 5 minutes !!! Cut and cleaned up all 4 rubbers and test assembled the hub complete with cush rubbers then moved on to try and fit the rear wheel.

This is the easy bit you just have to get the wheel complete with cush drive, two spacers and the sliding rear brake calliper unit all lined up make sure the chain is on the sprocket and then simply insert the rear axle !!! Theres no main stand on the R and without a proper bike lift in the garage this means the wheel has to be fitted on the angle so to speak ie it makes it even just that little bit easier :icon_sad:

Well after an hour of trying to get it all in place I gave up the new cush rubbers stopped the rear hub drive from seating properly (even using the provided zip ties) and this extra couple of mms meant I just couldnt get it all to fit in the space available. Yet another cup of coffee and a very very big think.

Eventually I used the rear axle (together with all the other bits as spacers) to clamp up the rear hub and then snugged up the zip ties holding the seated drive sprocket to the wheel spokes simple well it only took two attempts on the second go I tightened the zip ties as much as I could then used another smaller zip tie to squeeze the two sides of the connection loop together (in a sort of a Spanish Windlass approach) to create even more tension. When I unbolted the rear axle and released the tension there was still a little bit of movement but this was probably only around 1 ~ 1.5mm so with fingers crossed I resumed the fitment process.

Finally with a bit of pressure (spanner used as a lever) I managed to get all the bits to slide into place and then by scientific application of local pressure to the axle (light tapping on the end) it all slid together and I nipped it up tight. Used the last of my spray chain lube and went for a small ride All sweet :happy3:

So all in all the complete wheel re-fitting operation took some 4 hours What The Hell - but coffee breaks, swearing tirades and think time all included !!! It would be nice if the new rubbers wear in slightly before the next wheel change but I might just make a mental note to pack some heavy duty zip ties for the trip just in case. I wouldnt want to run into any problems sitting out in the Oz Desert Sun :smilies0979:
However I'm sure this will be a great mod overall.

I'm also going to do this mod to my Z and I want to know where can I buy it online?

Managed to buy PFI 5205-2RS C3 (same specs) on a local store for 34.
Now I have to find someone who can take care of adjustments in the hub and spacer.

After all this was not the right bearing...inside diameter was 25mm instead of 20mm...
Went to another bearing shop and this time they sold the one with the right measures but when I opened the box at home I realized it was a self aligning bearing with double row (2304) instead of a deep grove ball (62304).

Dumb question:
-Can I use this one instead without problem or do I have to change it again for 62304?

brmourato 14-08-14 15:18

Nevermind...
Went to the shop and managed to change it for the 62304 2RS :thumbsup[1]:
Now let's mount it to the bike!

I've just discovered my Cush-drive rubbers are shot at 4k miles.

Am getting prepared mentally for the Mod to machine the 'tunnel' 5mm deeper and fit the 62340 RS double row bearing, with 5mm shortened spacer.

Does it matter which bearing is to the outside in the final assembly?

You can call me a numpty.

Thanks

Hoping to do some of these mods if I can get the poly cush drive rubbers. Also been looking at the bearings - seems from what I can find the 62304 is a single row deep groove with rubber seals, and the 4304 is double row deep groove bearing but doesn't seem to be available with seals. Guess the 62304 is the option then - seems to be what others have found too, it's not available as a double row bearing?
